One summer day I wanted to write a review of my favorite medieval strategy, Stronghold Crusader, but later I abandoned this idea, because many bloggers had already reviewed it, and almost everyone knows this game. They know, they know, but unfortunately not everyone loves her. After the most gorgeous first part, many fans looked sideways at the Crusaders, played a little, and threw the disc under the bed. Honestly, I don’t understand what shortcomings this part had. It seems that interesting opponents have been added, several new campaigns, and the style has been completely redone. What’s wrong? Perhaps someone was scared off by the monotonous, sandy-yellow style of the game? It’s not clear… And that’s why I want to correct this situation and turn things around for the better by talking about two wonderful mods that I met a few months ago..
Stronghold Warchest
Let’s go back to 2002, where the Internet was not yet as widespread as it is now, and people played mainly on a local network… Most often, your best friend became a living opponent, but when he still could not give you a minute of his precious time, who came to the rescue? That’s right – a bot! But even then the word “bot” sounded proud! And now, what can I say, they’ll just laugh at you: You’re playing with bots, not with live players? Well, you and… in general, if you want, think of this phrase yourself. But Stronghold was not the kind of game where you could easily defeat a bot. This phrase could easily be answered with the following: And you put seven Richards against you and I’ll see which of you is a hero. But months passed and you were already keeping score: So, today I killed three Richards, a couple of Wolves and four Saladins, not bad, not bad, well, I need to improve the result. A few more weeks pass and you realize that killing the Pig over and over again or tearing apart the Wolf’s stronghold over and over again is already boring, because all the tactics are known, and you have already trained so much that you can easily defeat three Saladins and Richards at a time. And of course, boredom sets in and many go back to multiplayer, but unfortunately not for long..
And here, one bright day, a mod comes out, or rather a patch called Warchest, which adds eight new bots! Honestly, I was very happy and ran to download it right away, because these were additional tests and new tactics!
But unfortunately, I defeated them all very quickly, the bots were quite weak both in tactics and in the construction of castles, because even some of them practically did not build walls. But it’s not for nothing that today I mentioned this addition, because while opening a new page with mods, I quite accidentally came across the most powerful mod for Stronghold Crusader, in my opinion, called Stronghold Europe.Ask what the connection is here, and now I’ll tell you everything..

This mod has been developed for more than two years and at the beginning its main task was to recreate the atmosphere of the first Stronghold, namely the complete transfer of graphics and music from the first part of Crusader. And the author completely succeeded, now those who did not like the lifeless desert could easily walk through the green meadows and build their own gray stone fortress. I think words are unnecessary here, just look at this screenshot:
But the authors did not stop there and decided to turn the mod into a global project, changing the game balance, bot locks and their artificial intelligence. The mod is completely designed to make your game with bots more difficult. Let’s remember the rat with his pathetic castle, where both the entrance and exit were generally open, and what do we have now:
A powerful, impenetrable fortress, like Richard’s. Yes, it really is impressive, but the strength of the wolf looks even more impressive:

But as I already said, the fortresses are not the only thing that the developers changed in the game; now the enemy has begun to behave more aggressively:
There are about 70 horse archers and 100 swordsmen here. This is the army the Vizier assembled.
Of course, the mod is not intended for beginners, but for experienced players. The complexity increases significantly, but this makes it much more interesting.
I think a few words can be said about new bots. As I already said, without this mod, they will not be your rivals, but with it they turn into a real hurricane! It becomes as interesting to play as with a live opponent. Moreover, the new bots are made in a very original style. For example, the Abbot uses a hundred monks to attack and defend his fortress. It has a well-developed economy and always a lot of money. Nazir is a very dangerous enemy, because he uses silent assassins and can easily bypass your castle from the side and climb onto the walls and take out all your archers. Another interesting character is, of course, the Marshal, who sends about seven horsemen to attack. No, don’t laugh, dear readers, the balance of units has also been reworked and now one such horseman can easily kill ten swordsmen under a powerful shower of arrows. So one time I didn’t notice how, from somewhere on the side, while attacking the castle, four horsemen appeared. And then I looked at the map and asked myself: Where the hell is my hundred archers?!? Ahhhh, so this is that pathetic bunch of 25 dead soldiers..
Naturally, this mod brings a bunch of additions and changes, such as new maps for battles (V 1.5 you will find mine) and campaigns, but you can’t list all the improvements, so it’s better to download this mod yourself and see the difference with your own eyes..
